Summer Sports Camps for children with disabilities

SDS Summer Sports Camp 2017

Wednesday 5th July 2017 — Fri 7th July 2017

Inverclyde Centre, Largs

For Young People with Physical Disabilities and Sensory Impairments

Scottish Disability Sports is delighted to be co-ordinating the seventeenth annual Summer Sports Camp for young people with a physical disability and or sensory impairment. We are again fortunate to be supported by long-term partners Better Breaks and Celtic FC Foundation and sportscotland. The camp will include a comprehensive selection of sport and physical activity along with an evening social programme. The camp introduces children to a range of sport and physical activity and empowers them to become more independent and responsible whilst increasing their confidence alongside an opportunity to participate in adapted, inclusive sport with their peers.

The Venue

Following a very successful two-year hiatus in the Highlands SDS returns to its spiritual Summer Camp home of the sportscotland Inverclyde Centre, Largs. The centre has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and is now among the most accessible sport and residential centres in the UK.

Eligibility

The camp will be open to all young people aged 10 – 18 years with a physical disability and/or sensory impairment. Places on this camp are limited, so apply early to avoid disappointment.

*NB Athletes outside this age range may apply, however priority will be given to athletes who fit the 10 – 18 age bracket.

Programme

The aim of the camp is to introduce participants to a variety of activities over the three days in a fun and safe environment. All sessions will be led by qualified coaches currently involved in the Scottish Disability Sport programme.

All sports equipment will be provided at the camp but feel free to take your own equipment if you wish.

All facilities at the centre are fully accessible and 6 bedrooms are available with connecting rooms and tracking hoists should an individual require support during the evening.

The programme will feature a series of innovative, inventive sessions covering a wide array of different types of sport. More information will be available in the run-up to the camp.

Support Staff

Scottish Disability Sport is committed to care for the health and welfare of all participants at the camp. There will be a minimum of two fully qualified nurses in attendance at all times.
