Shetland CAB supports carers

Do you have questions?

CAB can provide you with free advice on your rights as a carer … carers assessments, respite care, availability and charges for community care, queries about community care assessments etc.

CAB can also provide information about Power of Attorney and Guardianship Orders.

Carers may be entitled to financial help because of their caring role. Last year, Shetland CAB helped local carers to claim almost £15,000 in Carers Allowance and Young Carers Grants.

CAB recommends Carers, and the people they care for, get regular Benefit Checks. Benefits can be complicated but CAB Advisers can carry out a check to see you are getting all the help you are entitled to. It is particularly important to check benefits if there is any change in circumstance eg if health conditions get worse.

Last year Shetland CAB helped local people with disabilities and health problems to gain over £1.7million in benefits (Personal Independence Payment, Employment Support Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance).

Carers and the people they care for may also be entitled to help with energy and other costs.

You can contact Shetland CAB on 01595 694696 or by emailing sicab@shetland.org or Shetland Carers can refer you for support.
