Short breaks for Carers
Shetland Carers are supporting the National Carer Organsiations Carers Manifesto Campaign. They are highlighting different issues that are important to Carers.
Providing short breaks for carers and the people they care for is now widely accepted as vital to sustaining the caring relationship and the health and wellbeing of carers.
However, the availability and choice of short breaks across Scotland can vary considerably, and the Carers (Scotland) Act does not place a duty on local authorities to provide short breaks – only to consider them when providing support to carers.
We believe there is a strong case to establish a minimum entitlement to breaks from caring. Read more about this in our manifesto for unpaid carers https://goo.gl/tZNGhM
