COVID-19 Advice for Carers

Advice for unpaid carers from Scottish Gov, National Carers Orgs, Carers UK and Emergency Plan info.

This page contains information for carers about advice and help that is available in Scotland to support carers. It is not intended to provide medical information or guidance on coronavirus which can be found at NHS Inform.

A Pathway about what carers in Shetland can expect during Covid-19 can be viewed here.

The Scottish Government now has a dedicated page for information for carers here.

Carers Scotland have a range of information and downloads with links to organisations who can help with, for example, food deliveries, carer and young carer services support available and information on help with heating costs. This can be viewed here.

The National Carers Organisations have produced a Question and Answer factsheet to explain what the Coronavirus Act covers and highlight the measures that are most relevant to carers. Because Guidance is still being produced for the different measures in the Act, they don't have all the detail on how individual measures will work, so they will be updating the factsheet as they get more information. You can view the Factsheet here. It is also available on their Website here.

VAS Carers Support Service continues to support unpaid carers in Shetland by offering info and advice and help to access short breaks. Although Market House is currently closed to the public, we are contactable on phone at 743980, by email at carers@shetland.org and also through our website and facebook page.

At this uncertain times, an Emergency Plan could give a carer peace of mind. This is a document to record all the support a carer carries out for their cared for person so that this can continue if the carer was unable to carry out their caring role at short notice. We can support carers to create an Emergency Plan or carers can work through a toolkit themselves from the Emergency Planning page on our website.
