Overnight Respite in Your Own Home

Through our Winter Wellbeing Fund, Shetland Carers can support carers to access some overnight respite through Shetland Care Attendant Scheme.

Shetland Care Attendant Scheme (SCAS) provides trained Care Attendants to give carers a break in their own homes. This enables the carer to have some quality time to call their own to use as they wish.

Through our Winter Wellbeing Fund, Shetland Carers can support carers to access some overnight respite through SCAS. A Care Attendant can provide up to 10 hours overnight respite to enable you to have an overnight break from your caring routine. This can be on a ‘sleep in’or ‘waking night’ basis, depending on your cared for person’s needs. Shetland Carers and SCAS will provide a block of these overnight respites based on your needs and the care attendant’s availability. For example this could be one night per month over several months, or a run of consecutive nights.

Some feedback about SCAS from a recent survey:

“As a family we feel extremely lucky to have this support for dad, the care personnel who mind him from SCAS are first class – skilled and caring”

“The service has been invaluable for us. We’d have struggled enormously without it and all the kind and caring people involved. We have nothing but promise and gratitude for this service”
