1. NCS National Forum 2023
2. Recent LEEP activities
1. National Care Service Forum 2023 On 30 October, the National Care Service National Forum took place online and in-person at the Glasgow Science Centre. It was a fantastic day with more than 250 people joining the event online and in-person in Glasgow. The forum was an opportunity for people with lived experience of accessing social care support, unpaid carers, people who work in community health and social care support and other organisations to come together and talk about the progress of the National Care Service and what needs to happen next. This follows the publication of the feedback we gathered from the regional co-design events held across Scotland this summer. We heard from co-chairs Lorraine McGrath, CEO of the Simon Community Scotland and Shea Moran, Senior Representative for Aff The Streets with speeches from Donna Bell, Director for Social Care and NCS Development, Lucy Challoner, an unpaid young carer and newly qualified social worker and Minister for Drugs and Alcohol Policy, Elena Whitham. There was also a panel discussion led by Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport, Maree Todd. The minister was joined by representatives of trade unions, the third sector, NHS, local authorities and those with lived experience to discuss how service users and workforce can work together to make changes. We are very grateful to everyone who joined us and shared their experience and expertise both online and in-person. We will share what we learned from the forum on gov.scot/ncs and publish the speeches in due course. |
2. Recent LEEP activities
In November, we invited some LEEP members to take part in an interactive, online co-design session to get your input on the first draft of the National Care Service Workforce Charter.
The Workforce Charter came about from recommendations in the Independent Review of Adult Social Care in Scotland, led by Derek Feeley.
Our goal is to co-design this charter with members of the workforce across health and social care, who may come under the intended remit of a NCS Workforce Charter.
The first draft of the NCS Workforce Charter was developed using insights from the ‘Valuing the Workforce’ Co-design Summer Regional Forums and from desk research.
During these recent sessions, we shared the first draft of the Workforce Charter. Participants were asked to share their perceptions of a Workforce Charter and the value of having one. They were also asked about to provide input into the development of the draft Workforce Charter.
The insights from these sessions will help with the co-design of the NCS Workforce Charter.
If you were not invited on this occasion, or were unable to attend, please do not worry. We will be in touch at a later date with further opportunities to join in. We will be adding topics and opportunities to get involved on a regular basis over the coming months and years.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. You can email us at LEEP@gov.scot or call us on 0808 196 1507.
