FREE Introduction to Mindfulness – What, why and how? With John Uttley

Free block of 6 sessions which will provide an introduction to mindfulness, on Monday nights at The Mission from 7th March.

Mondays for 6 weeks starting 7 March 2022, 7pm - 8.30pm at The Mission, 2 Harbour Street, Lerwick

This class is free of charge and offered to Shetland Carers.

The course is suitable for all, including complete beginners.

Over six weeks you will learn what mindfulness is, the benefits of practice, how to cultivate your own potential for mindfulness and compassion, how to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life and how you might, if you choose, continue on this path after the course finishes. You will also gain some understanding and appreciation of important companion qualities including compassion for self and others, and loving-kindness.

Meditations can be done either seated or lying down, which ever you prefer. Wear comfortable clothing in which you can practice gentle movement. It might be helpful to bring a blanket and a yoga mat or similar to lie on. If you already meditate you are free to bring a mat, stool or whatever you normally use to make yourself comfortable, but there is no need for any specialist equipment.

This course is being delivered as part of the tutor's training requirements for the Mindfulness Meditation Teaching Certification Programme (MMTCP) and is therefore being offered to you at no cost.

Note: John is required to record elements of the course as part of his training. These audio recordings will be shared only with the Mindfulness Meditation Teaching Certification Programme administration and his mentor.
