Day Two of Carers Week 2021

Welcome to Day Two of Carers Week 2021. The theme this year is 'Making Caring Visible and Valued.' During the week, Shetland Carers hope to raise the profile of unpaid carers and try to identify hidden carers who are not currently receiving support.

Today's theme is 'Carers Rights.'

For your information today:

*Carers (Scotland) Act 2016

The Carers Act came into force in 2018 and placed certain duties on each local authority to support carers’ health and wellbeing.

One new duty under The Act was a requirement for each local authority to prepare an adult support plan (or young carer statement) for any carer who requests one. Another was that carers are involved in hospital discharge planning with NHS and local care services.

More information, including links to individual leaflets, which also cover Self Directed Support, Short Breaks and Emergency Planning, can be found on our website at https://www.shetlandcarers.org/info/rights
