Shetland CAB supports Carers
Do you have questions?
CAB can provide you with free advice on your rights as a carer … carers assessments, respite care, availability and charges for community care, queries about community care assessments etc.
CAB can also provide information about Power of Attorney and Guardianship Orders, Carer Support Payment, Carer's Allowance Supplement and Young Carer Grant.
Carers may be entitled to financial help because of their caring role. During 2023/2024, Shetland CAB helped local carers to claim just under £40,000 in Carers Allowance and Carers Allowance Supplement.
CAB recommends that carers, and the people they care for, get regular Benefit Checks. Benefits can be complicated but CAB Advisers can carry out a check to see you are getting all the help you are entitled to. It is particularly important to check benefits if there is any change in circumstance eg if health conditions get worse.
Carers and the people they care for may also be entitled to help with energy and other costs.
